Apple purchased Quattro this year, and one of the rumors was that Apple was going to operate with Quattro to develop online ads. Apparently, this is a sealed deal and Apple will be creating iAd.
But this is a rumor, nobody knows for sure that Apple will develop this system, however, in the case of doing it(as the rumors assert), this will bring some issues in the online advertising industry.
“iAd would make it easier for app developers to put advertisements in their applications. iAd would also further strain the already tense relations between Apple and Google by creating yet another area of competition between the two companies.”

The Associate Press has published the following article:
“Lee Enterprises, publisher of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and other newspapers, said January total revenue fell 9.2 percent from the prior year.
The company said the decline is the first single-digit percentage drop since 2008. And the company said advertising trends have improved for the fifth month in a row.
Newspaper publishers have been struggling with a severe slump in advertising revenue, exacerbated by the sluggish economy, as more people use the Internet to get their news. Lee said ad revenue for January fell 10.5 percent from the prior year.”

In the Wired’s Disruptive by Design first business conference, Mr. Tim Cadogan, CEO of OpenX, commented: “In the next year or two, you’re going to see an online renaissance in online advertising”
Mr. Cadogan used to work as an executive for Yahoo, but he resigned last year to begin his new carrier as the CEO of OpenX. The main purpose of this business is to provide “ad publishers with free, flexible core software publications that people can build and tailor to reach their company’s target audience.”
He strongly believes that publishers will be able to develop better ads with the use of videos, games and the entire media. However, Mark Shuttleworth, founder of the operating system Ubuntu, commented in the conference that he disagrees with Mr. Cadogan.
Finally, Mr. Shuttleworth commented that:”Advertising is not the answer for all business models.” However, Cadogan has received $10 million from investors in the hope that this model will work.
