David Smith, CEO & Founder David started his hotel career as a hotel management trainee in California on the Monterey Peninsula with Hyatt Hotels, under the direction of Phil Lombardi, at the Hyatt Regency in Monterey. He graduated his skill set to Pebble Beach Resorts where he was awarded "Manager of the Year" in 1987. In 1989 David moved briefly to Atlanta, where the corporate offices for Ritz-Carlton Hotels were located, where he went through a rigorous education and training program. It was then that he learned the skill of "process management". This indoctrination to a service philosophy monitored via process management became the corner stone of his advanced studies. David studied with University of Nevada, Las Vegas and CORNELL professors in applied management techniques where he was one of the first team members to work on the Malcolm Baldrige process for the Ritz Carlton Hotel Company. The Ritz Carlton subsequently won the Malcolm Baldridge Award twice during the 1990's. The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company was the first hotel company ever to win this prestigious award. David has embraced a modern approach to management partnered with technology as the corner stone and remains an advocate of Total Quality Management. After leaving the Ritz Carlton Hotel Company, in an effort to further develop his skill set he moved into the luxury boutique hotel market. David managed and opened properties for two well known San Francisco based companies, the Kimpton Hotels and Joie de Vivre Hospitality, where he served as General Manager and Vice-President of Development during his tenure with them. The condo hotel business was a natural progression for David. He was the founding C.O.O. of Pacific Beach House, LLC, a condo hotel company started by two successful Palo Alto Developers. Teamed with the Palo Alto Developers, David developed and built two luxury condo hotels on the California Coast. The first hotel located in the San Francisco Bay area and second in Hermosa Beach. Both projects remain very successful today. David left briefly to take on the helm of a publicly held company in Europe as President of Raven Hotel Management. He later returned to the San Francisco area to the Pacific Beach House as its C.E.O. where he remained until he co-founded HotelTravelCheck in 2001. David remains CEO of HotelTravelCheck.com. HotelTravelCheck.com along with HTC Hospitality provide consulting, marketing and advanced web applications for over 600 hotels in North America and Europe. In his spare time David currently is President of the Mountain Gate Home Owners Association located in Palm Springs. Mountain Gate has 600 constituent homes representing 1400 residents. He was a member on the Executive Board of Camp Laurel, a non-profit organization located in Los Angeles. Camp Laurel's mission is to educate, mentor, create out-reach programs, and provide outdoor activities for children and young adults affected by, or living with life-threatening illnesses. Today David maintains two residences, one in Palm Springs and one I Southern Arizona located in the high desert just 20 minutes from the Arizona Mexico border. Click here to visit the Website |
