The San Francisco Museum and Historical
Society is a non-profit organization focused on preserving,
interpreting, and presenting the historical heritage
of San Francisco, from its variegated natural history
to its lively human history.
The Society fulfills these objectives through a broad
spectrum of exhibitions, programs and special events,
and The Argonaut, our beautiful journal featuring
photographs and in-depth reviews of our city's history.
The Society currently has exhibitions at Pier 45 and
City Hall.
The Society was organized in February 2002, following
the merger of the San Francisco Historical Society
and the Museum of the City of San Francisco.

Events
The Society is proud to present monthly lecture programs
covering a variety of topics of historic interest.
Speakers include authors and historians, often accompanied
by slide presentations. Monthly programs are open
to the public and held on the second Tuesday of the
month. ($5 donation requested from SFMHS non-members,
which may be applied toward membership)
In addition to providing guided walking tours of
the Barbary Coast Trail, the Society sponsors architectural
and history walking tours throughout San Francisco’s
districts and neighborhoods. Walking tours are free
and open to the public, unless otherwise noted in
the Calendar of Events.
The Society also holds special events and fund raisers,
including an annual Home Tour, and Dinner/Auction.
